Paddocks

These are broken down and rotted. Many of the posts will need to be replaced. Some boards could be reused.

Mika and Whisper wandered out into the old over grown paddocks. She thought she saw something and slowly walked towards it. She cleared away a few weeds and found a large pile of timbers. There were fence posts, fence rails, even boards for the barn. She grinned and nodded to Mika. ~Lets get to work~ She found a old hammer and started getting to work weeding out the old rotted posts and boards and saving the nails in an old rusted bucket.

"OK, where did you see the wood?" i asked as we reached to paddocks.

"right over.." she pointed towards the pile of wood hidden in the weeds "there" she said somewhat excitedly and quickly considering her condition started making her way over there.

"Should we go and scout out the area where to new barns going to be?" i asked, "That's what i would do first....removing, leveling and such" i waited for Mika to reply.

Mika nodded "Sounds good, and we can mark out the dimensions and such."

i smiled "Sure" Shiroi eyed the surriounings then trotted behind us. -----Barn--->

Mika and Aaden walked out towards the paddocks. Mika saw Koda grazing in the far corner. She gave a robin call and Koda's head quickly looked around. She nickered and ran up to the paddock. Mika stroked her nose and whispered something in Lakota to the pretty buckskin. "Aaden, meet Koda" she said softly as to not spook the shy mustang.

"Hi there Koda." he said gently, putting out a hand. The horse skittered back a few steps and he put his hand down, "She's a little jump isn't she. "

Mika was watching both Koda and Aaden, so far they seemed to be doing ok. "She'll calm down..she just came off the range." Mika said quietly. "Here watch.." with that she slipped into the paddock and walk a ways with her back to Koda. She waited. Koda turned to watch her. She snorted before turning and plodding after her. She stopped right behind her and snuffled her hair and blew on her neck. Mika smiled broadly and barely contained a giggle. She slowly turned and stroked the horse. Koda snorted but stayed still. Mika gently stroked the horse and murmured in Lakota. Koda nickered and Mika smiled again before working her way to the horse's barrel. She put on hand on Koda's mane and one on her withers before smoothly swinging up and then sitting stock still on the horse. Koda flinched slightly but then relaxed and took a step forward.

Aaden watched her, how she handled the wild horse. "That's amazing, you must have been working with horses since you were a kid." he said, eyebrows raised a little. "Are we going to have a foal one our hands soon?"

Mika smiled and turned Koda with her legs. "I could ride before I could walk" she said softly. "I wasn't sure what you wanted to do" Mika said "If we let her in with him now we can still use him to round up the cattle and other horses but it would be easier if we had two horses." she said carefully. He was the leader, she didn't want him to be thinking that she would or could be making decisions for him.

"Just wondering is all." he replied. "Vandecar is so far ahead of us, what with them having all the crops growing." he made his way slowly to Koda, but just watching her.

Mika nodded. "We'll need to trade for some of their crops come winter. It would be nice if we had more horses and cattle to use in trade. I found a herd of cattle and I marked several more mares that should work for cow ponies." Mika said quietly

He shrugged, "You know more about horses then I do. " 'And considering this is a ranching town, that's more valuable then what I have to offer.' he thought to himself.

Mika saw the indecision in his face. "How about we go back out there and grab those mares? When we come back the others can pick their horses from that group and then everyone can work with them for a bit. Once they can work together we can go back out and round up those cattle." Mika smiled "does that sound good?"

"Yeah, sounds fine." he replied, "Where are the cattle? In the range land too?"

Mika nodded "Yep they are in a secluded valley. I can show it to you on the way out to the horse herd" she nodded. "When do you want to leave?"

"We could go now if you want." he replied, "There's not much else to do. "

Mika nodded "Sounds good, can you ride Beauty bareback or would you like to use on of the saddles in the old barn?" She asked gently.

"I'm fine either way." he replied, going toward the black horse. He opened the door and led him out.

Mika nodded and hopped off of Koda. She slipped on a hackamore bridle and led her out of the paddock. She grabbed her pack that hadn't been unpacked from her last trip and swung it over her shoulder. "Do you need to grab anything from the houses?"

"Just a few things, I'll meet you outside the village." he replied, heading off toward the houses.

"Kay sounds good" she called after him before swinging up onto Koda and slowly walking out of the village.
